Kaiping in Guangdong province to Guangzhou airport
Q: Hi, I need to go from Kaiping to Guangzhou airport and vice versa. So far I know that I can take a long distance bus from Kaiping to Guangzhou, but from the bus depot in Guangzhou, is there MTR or city trains that will go to the airport, or are there direct buses to airport from the bus station? Thank you!
You can take a bus to Fangcun Long Distance Bus Station (Fangcun Qiche Zhan) in Guangzhou. There you should be able to catch an airport express shuttle that takes you to Guangzhou Baiyun Airport. Departures for the airport is every 30 minutes, from 5:30 in morning and 9:00 in the evening. Departures from the airport to Fangcun Bus Station is 7:00 in the morning adn 10:20 in the evening. There may be airport shuttle connections at other long distance bus stations in Guangzhou, such as the Provincial Bus Station (Sheng Zhan, next to Guangzhou Railway Station) or Tianhe Bus Station.
An alternative: go to the airport terminal in Jiangmen, where you can take a shuttle bus to go to Guangzhou Baiyun Airport directly. Jiangmen is approximately 50 km east of Kaiping. For flights of most of the airlines you can get your boarding pass at the Jiangmen terminal, but only during certain hours. From the Jiangmen terminal to Baiyun Airport it is trip of 2.5 hours; cost is 70 yuan. You're supposed, of course, to arrive at the airport a couple of hours before flight time. shuttle buses leave the Jiangmen terminal every hour from 6:00 am to 5:40 pm. The Jiangmen Airport Termina (Jiangmen Houjilou) is located at No. 116 Yingbin Dadao Zhong (No. 116, Yinbin Avenue Middle). It is in the eastern wing of Jiangmen Yihao Hotel. Tel.: 0750-3166333, 3502832, 0750-3502833. Points of dropping-off and picking up at the airport are Gate 7 of Section A and Gate 10 of Section B.
You can also ask around at hotels in Kaiping to see if they offer transportation to Guangzhou Airport. Kaiping Dasha Jiudian (Kaiping Plaza Hotel), for example, seems to such a service. But this seems to be a car rental kind of a deal in which they provide a small and take up to four person to the airport (and back), charging about 100 yuan per person. To clarify, there is NO subway from Fengcun Bus station to the airport, but instead a bus shuttle service?

This depends on when you travel. The forecast is that the subway extension to Guangzhou Baiyun Airport will open for service at the end of October 2010. There is a rush to have this done before the opening of the Guangzhou Asian Games on November 12. There is, therefore, a good chance that this will happen by the end of October. The new service extends the subway system northward connecting Guangzhou East Railway Station to Baiyun Airport. Kengkou Subway Station on Subway Line 1 is the closest to Fangcun Bus Station. Subway Line 1 ends at Guangzhou East Railway Station.
