Shanghai Taxi Rates Increase
Cab riders in Shanghai will pay more starting on October 11. The charge for the intial 3 km of a taxi ride is now ¥12.00 instead of the ¥11.00 in the past, and the charge for every additional km was raised from from ¥2.10 to ¥2.40.
Rates for taxi rides during night time, which is from 23 pm to 5 am, are also raised: from ¥14.00 to ¥16.00 for the initial 3 km and from ¥2.70 to ¥3.10 for each km beyond.
The new rates will affect over 47,000 taxi vehicles in Shanghai.
According to municipal government officials, the new increase in taxi rates arose largely from the requirement that the taxis use high-quality gasoline, which in turn is part of Shanghai's drive to clean up the air in the city.
Separately, in the southern city Shenzhen, the charge for the initial 3 km of a taxi ride was lowered from ¥12.50 to ¥10.00. At the same time, the rates for long distance rides (above 25 km) was increased by 30%.
