Starting on October 11, 2009, tourists in Beijing, Shanghai and Hangzhou can fly directly to Jiuzhaigou. Up till now, travlers on China's coastal areas have to change plane in Chongqing, Chengdu or Xian before they can fly on to Jiuzhaigou, the scenic area in Western Sichuan known for its prestine forests and colorful ponds.

The new air services are on a daily basis, operated by Sichuan Airline. The arrival airport is Jiuzhaigou Jiuhuang Airport. Travel time from Beijing, Shanghai and Hangzhou range from two to three hours.
