More American Students Studying in China

In 2007, over 25% more American students went to study in China than in the previous year. With 11,064 American students chose China as their study abroad destination, China is now American students' most popular study-abroad destination outside Europe.

The finding, reported in Open Doors 2000, a report prepared by the non-profit organization Institute of International Education, indicates that the increase importance of China in global affairs has strongly affected American educators and American students in terms of their study-abroad plans.

Four European countries continue to top the list of most popular study-abroad destinations: the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany and France. In Asia, trailing China in numbers of American students are Japan and India.
