Officially, China's National Grand Opera House is known as the National Center for the Performing Arts. The building is shaped like an egg, which is 212 m (696 ft) length-wise and 143 m (469 ft) across. The structure above the ground measures 46 m (151 ft) in height, just 3 meters or 10 feet lower than the Great Hall of People that stands next to it (the Great Hall of People houses China's National Peple's Congress). A big part of the opera house is underground, which goes to the depth of 33 meters or 108 feet.
