Nanchang

Located in the heartland of South China, Nanchang is the capital of Jiangxi Province. It 1,609 km or 998 mi south of Beijing, 837 km or 518.94 mi southwest of Shanghai, and 875 km or 543 mi northeast of Guangzhou. This is a city with a strong revolutionary past, where the August 1st Uprising took place in 1927, the beginning of a struggle that eventually brought the Chinese Communist Party to power in China. Although moderate as a tour destination in itself, it is a stepping stone to noted sites such as Mt. Lu, Wuyuan and Jingdezhen.

  • August 1st Uprising Museum

    August 1st 1927 is a date critically important in the history of the Chinese Communist Party, which rules China today. On that day, the Chinese Communists openly rebelled against the Chinese government at the time and thus started an armed struggle that brought the Communist Party to power in 1949. The August 1st Nanchang Uprising Museum, located on Zhongshan Road, is housed in an old hotel that, back in 1927, served as the headquarters for the Communist rebel leaders.
  • Meiling Scenic Area

    Situated 15 km northwest of Nanchang, the Meiling Scenic Area comprises 150 square km of land. Green hills, clear lakes, clouds and caves make a retreat for the resident of Nanchang. The area is also rich with Daoist tradition, as shown by the various rock inscriptions and Daoist shrines.
  • Nanchang Star Observation Wheel (Nanchang Zhi Xing Motianlun)

    This is a passenger-carrying Ferris wheel located on the bank of the Gan River. Measured 165 meters (541 ft) in height, it is 30 meters (98 ft) taller than the London Eye. In addition to providing visitors rides, Nanchang Star is designed to look like a large clock and can put on special light effects at night.
  • Poyang Lake Bird Conservation

    Boyang Hu lies 30 km east of Nanchang. It is the largest lake in China. About 60 km northesat of Nanchang, at Wucheng, Yongxiu County, there is a protection area for migrant birds, where on can observe swans, wild geese, grey herons and white cranes.
  • Qingshan Hu (Qingshan Lake)

    Located in the eastern suburb of Nanchang, Qingshan Lake is 988 acres in area. This is a resort with amusement and sports facilities, along with attractions such as Birds Garden and Swan Island.
  • Qingyunpu (Celeste Cloud Shrine - Badashanren Memorial Hall)

    A Daoist shrine that was later adopted as the residence of the famous artist Zhu Da. Zhu, better known as Badashanren, lived in the late Ming and Early Qing Dynasty was renowned for his simple and yet moving ink paintings as well as his calligraphy. Located5 km south of Nanchang, Qingyunpu now serves as a gallery and memorial hall that showcases works of Badashanren.
  • Rope and Gold Pagoda (Sheng Jin Ta)

    Measured 50 meters in height and located where Sheng Jin Ta Street and Sheng Jin Ta Dong Street meet, this is a historical structure. The pagoda was originally built in the 19th century and rebuilt and repaired several times over the centuries. Buddhist treasures were allegedly found when the ground was broken to construct the tower, hence the name of the building.
  • Teng Wang Ge (Prince Teng Tower)

    The structure was made famous by a poem written back in the 7th century, which depicts the view from the tower. The pavilion standing today, however, was a recent reconstruction. The name of the pavilion came from the prince who ordered the construction of the original tower. Measured 57.5 meters in height, Tengwang Pavilion stands west of Nanchang, on the bank of the Gan River.

Airport:

Nanchang Changbei International Airport is 25 northwest of the city. The airport is connected to the city by shuttle buses, taxis and city buses.

Railway Station:

Nanchang Railway Station is located in the southeastern Nanchang, where Erqi Nan Road and Zhanqian Road meet.

Long Distance Bus Stations:

Nanchang Long Distance Bus Station (Nanchang Changtu Qiche Zhan), no. 199 Bayi Dadao (August 1 Avenue). Changnan Passenger Transportation Center (Changnan Keyun Zhan), about 10 km south of the city center, on Yinngbin Avenue, between Zhengxing Avenue and Chenghubei Avenue. Xufang Passenger Transportation Center (Xufang Keyun Zhan), no. 850 Jinggangshan Avenue.
