Kunming

Located in the southwest of China, Kunming is the capital of Yunnan Province. The city is nicknamed "Spring City" for the temperate climb of the region. Yunnan being a province with a high concentration of minority peoples, it's capital city reflects the cultural diversity.

Attractions

  • Daguan Lou (Grandview Pavilion)

    Daguan Lou, Grandview Pavilion was originally built in the 17th century. Located at the northern end of the Dian Lake, the pavilion is traditionally a favorite spot to enjoy the views of the Dian lake. The pavilion is also known for what is believed to be China's longest duilian (poetic couplet) inscribed on the building. Now the pavilion is part of a 40-acre park - Daguan Gongyuan (Grandview Park).
  • Dian Chi - Dian Lake

    Dian Lake is the largest lake in Yunnan Province and the eighth largest in China. From the southern of Kunming the lake extends 40 km southward, occupying a total of 300 square km. Among the notable attractions that situate around the lake are West Hills Park, Daguanyuan Park, Haigeng Park, and Yunnan Minorities Village.
  • Jiuxiang Scenic Region

    Jiuxiang Scenic Area is 90 km southeast of Kunming. Measured 25 square km in area, the park features karst landscape (valleys, caves waterfalls) and folk culture.
  • Kunming Expo Garden

    In 1999 Kunming held an international horticultural fair. The Kunming Expo Garden was built at the time. Occupying over 500 acres of land, the Garden is the home of plants and flowers from around the world and hosts exhibition halls featuring tea, bamboo, bonsai, etc.
  • Shilin (Stone Forest)

    This scenic region is located 100 km southeast of Kunming. The karst landscape of the region features beautifully shaped stone formations that together appear to be forests of rocks, making it quite a natural wonder. Occupying a total area of 400 square kilometers, the core of the scenic region is what the Chinese call Da Shilin (Big Stone Forest), Xiao Shilin (Small Stone Forest), and Naigu Shilin (Naigu Stone Forest).
  • Xishan Forest Park

    Xishan - West Hills - is located 15 km southwest of Kunming, on the westside of the Dian Lake. In addition to the natural beauty of the mountains and the neighboring lake, hidden in the mountains are sites such as Huating Temple, Taihua Temple, Sanqing Tower, and Longmen. Longmen ("Dragon Gate") is a viewing-platform carved into a mountain cliff. This is the best place for a bird's view of the Dian Lake and the city of Kunming.
  • Yunnan Ethnic Villages

    Villages recreated to present the rich ethnic traditions of Yunnan Province. Featured are famous scenic spots from across Yunnan and daily-life scenes of minority peoples.

Kunming Transportation


Airport:

Kunming Wujiaba International Airport is 5 km southeast of the city center. The airport is served with buses, taxis and city buses.

Railway Station:

Kunming Railway Station is the main rail terminal for the city. Kunming North Station serves trains that depart for cities in southwestern Yunnan.

Taxi:

¥8 for the first 3 km; ¥2 for every additional km.

Long Distance Bus Stations:

The main long distance terminals in Kunming include Nanyao Station (Beijing Road), Xi Zhan (Western Station) (Xi Zhan overpass), Dongbu Keyunzhan (Eastern Station) (Juhua overpass), Sheglv Gaokuai Station (Provincial Express) (Dongfeg Dong Road).
