Hefei

Hefei is the capital of Anhui Province in East China. It is approximately 1,100 km (680 mi) south of Beijing and 510 km (315 mi) northwest of Shanghai. The city has a urban population of 300 million and a total population of 500 million including residents of the three counties administered by the city.

Attractions

  • Anhui Provincial Museum

    Anhui Provincial Museum is located on Anqing Road in the central part of Hefei. The museum present the cultural and natural history of Anhui Province. Among the notable collections of the museum are bronze vessels from the Shang and Zhou dynasties, ancient currencies, antique books, and regional handicraft and artworks.
  • Jiaonu Tai and Mingjiao Si

    Jiaonu Tai means "Archers' Training Platform." Back in the era of Three Kingdoms, General Cao Cao of the Wei State drilled his troops here. A well at the site bears an inscription that dates back to 268 AD. Jiaonu Tai later became part of Mingjiao Si (Temple to Spouse the Teaching), a Buddhist establishment. The temple is located a block away from Xiaoyaojin Park.
  • Li Hongzhang's Residence

    A native of Hefei, Li Hongzhang was a minister and general under the Qing Dynasty active in the late 19th century. His old home is located on the busy Huaihe Street in the heart of Hefei. The residential complex, measured half an acre in area, serves as a small museum on Li's life and his times.
  • Lord Bao Temple (Bao Gong Ci)

    A native of Hefei, Lord Ba ?Bao Zheng? was an official who lived in the 11th century and who earned a great reputation for being upright and just, so much so that he became the legendary figure in China's popular culture. The Lord Bao Temple in Hefei is located in the central part of the city, on Wuhu Road. The shrine contains memorial buildings as well as the tombs for Lord Bao and some of his family members.
  • Sanhe Old Town

    Sanhe is 40 km to the south of Hefei. This is a town that has preserved some of its traditional residential architecture - old bridges, residential buildings, teahouses, markets and streets. Sanhe means "three rivers", which refers to the three small rivers that converge here.
  • Xiaoyaojin Park

    Located in the northeastern part of Xiaoyaojin Park is 30 hectares in area, which comprises both a lake and surrounding land. In the park is the site of ancient ford of the Fei River, where a critical battle was fought back in the historical period known as the Three Kingdoms (3rd century).

Airport

Hefei Luogang Airport is located at the southern edge of Hefei, approximately 1o km from the city center. The airport is served with a city bus line as well as taxis.

Railway Station:

There are two passenger train stations in Hefei - Hefei Railway Station (Hefei Huoche Zhan) and Hefei West Railway Station (Hefei Xi Zhan). Hefei Station is located in the northeastern part of the city, on Zhanqian Road. Hefei West Station is located in the southwestern part of the city, on Wangjiang Xi Road.

Long Distance Bus Stations:

Hefei Long Distance Bus Station (Hefei Changtu Qiche Zhan) is located at No 35 Shengli Road. It is 2 km south of Hefei Railway Station. Hefei Bus Passenger Transport General Station (Hefei Qiche Keyun Zong Zhan) is located next to Hefei Railway Station. Hefei Tourist Bus Station (Hefei Luyou Qiche Zhan) and Provincial Tourist Bus Station (Sheng Luyou Qiche Zhan) are also close to Hefei Railway Station. There are a number of other long bus stations in Hefei.
