Chongqing

Chongqing is one of the four provincial-level cities (the other three are Beijing, Shanghai, and Tianjin). Located on the upper streem of the Yangzi River, Chongqing is a major economic center of southwestern China. Not far downstream from Chongqing is the Three Gorges, now partly drenched in the world's biggest reservoir.

Attractions

  • Cable Car over the Yangzi River

    One just two Chinese dollars, one can take a ride a cable car to go over the Yangzi River from its northern bank to the southern side. The ride does not last long - 6 or 7 minutes, but it is nice way to take a look at the river and the city.
  • Chaotianmen Dock

    Two rivers, the Jiangling and the Yangzi, converge at Chongqing - more specifically, at Chaotianmen. Quite logically Chaotianmen became a dock where where ships big and small dock and depart. The land just above the dock is a large public space, where people walk and take a look at the city that rise above the twin rivers.
  • Eling Park (Eling Gongyuan)

    The park sits on a hilltop that is part of the mountain that separate the Jialing and the Yangzi rivers. Greens, pavilions, viewing platforms, and local folks play cards and mahjong under the shades of trees.
  • Jiefangbei (Liberation Monument)

    Even though "Jiefangbei" means "Liberation Monument," people generally use the refer to the area surrounding the particular structure, which has become the busiest and most fashionable commercial and entertainment center of Chongqing. Ironic, in a way, given the political significance of the Liberation Monument.
  • Northern Warm Spring Park (Bei Wenquan Gongyuan)

    This park is 50 km north of Chongqing, on the bank of the Jialing River. It is part of the Jinyunshan Scenic Zone. As the name of the park indicates, the main attraction here is the warm springs.
  • One Tree on the Southern Hill (Nanshan Yi Ke Shu)

    This refers to a high spot on the southern side of Chongqing. The platform here makes is a good place to take a panoramic view of the city, especially in the evening when the lights of Chonging are turned on. It is a short bus or taxi ride from the city. There is an entrance fee, 20 Chinese dollars.
  • Pibashan Park (Pibashan Gongyuan)

    At the elevation of 345 meters, Pibashan is the highest point of oldtown Chongqing. A nice place to climb a little hill, take in some cool air. Quite some people with their pet birds.

Chongqing Transportation


Airport:

Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport is 23 km northeast of the city center. Shuttle buses and taxis connect the city and the airport.

Railway Station:

There are several railway stsatins in Chongqing. Most trains stop and depart from Chongqing Railway Station and Chongqing North Station. The former is located older part of Chongqing, the peninsula in between the Yangzi and Jialing rivers; the latter is Yubei District, about 5 km north of the city center.

Light Rail

Chongqing Metro operates a city rail line that runs from Jiaochangkou in the heart of Chongqing to Xishancun in the southwestern suburb. Named No. 2 Line, this is part of a larger rail transportation system.

¥5 for the first 3 km; ¥1.2 for every additional km.
